With the Winterfest event having wrapped up on January 7th, the path has been cleared and the stage set for Fortnite's next update. The next Fortnite update (v33.20) is set for release on Tuesday, January 14 at 12pm GMT / 7am EST / 4am PST. The time is based on the usual Fortnite updates, with downtime typically starting at 9am GMT / 4am EST / 1am PST and lasting for around four hours. So it's possible that servers might be back up at 1pm GMT / 8am EST / 5am PST, but anyone familiar with Epic Games updates know to take this with a grain of salt.
The two main additions coming with this update are expected to be a Hatsune Miku Festival collab, and the addition of The Monsterverse (Godzilla being the only confirmed addition so far). We'll dive into those and many other rumored additions below, starting with my most anticipated, The Monsterverse.
Godzilla
This is going to meme so hard. With a seemingly endless combination of backblings, kicks, and emotes that players have access to, Godzilla is about to see toxicity levels that he can only dream of finding at a nuclear facility.
Just imagine for a second: You're dropping into a game after a long day at work. You put on your favorite outfit, equip your favorite pickaxe, adjust your emote wheel and you're off to the races. Within minutes, out of nowhere, this silly guy runs up out of nowhere. He's wearing the Coral Commandos backbling and is wearing Dunks. Freaking Dunks. On Godzilla. This guy is playing like eliminating you is somehow going to pay his mortgage for the month. Within seconds, after a flurry of Typhoon Blade swings, you've been eliminated. Now, the fun begins. As you reflect on how you could have avoided this fate, You hear a familiar jingle. Godzilla, King of the Monsters, is hitting the Griddy where your body used to lay.
All jokes aside, this is going to be fun. There are rumored to be at least 2 Godzilla skins, only 1 of which have been confirmed (Godzilla Evolved), and MAYBE MechaGodzilla. There is also a rumor that King Kong will be added to the game, which will accompany a live event pitting Kong and Godzilla against each other. If added, these two will spawn on the map as bosses you can eliminate to gain exclusive loot (Monarch Medallions, and maybe a special mythic weapon). There will also be Monarch supply drops, which will hopefully add Monsterverse themed weapons to the loot pool. I'm really for this collab. I hope this will lead to more Monsterverse additions in the future.
Hatsune Miku Festival Collab
(Grabs Soapbox) ahem..... I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS IS!
Season 7 of Fortnite Festival will usher in the newest headliner, Hatsune Miku. While I am not familiar with this artist, there are plenty of other people who do. Coming with the collab with be music, obviously, skins, and a potential BR appearance as an NPC with a quest to help locate a backpack.
Other Additions
While Godzilla and Hatsune Miku are the main attractions for this update, there are a few other things I need to touch on as well. I won't delve into much detail, as some of these are just rumors, but I will on 1 or 2.
New Story Quest: Help free Night Rose from the Marionette Demon
Kappa Kappa Pickle Farm Expanding
Map update: Altar and Forge being added to Warrior's Watch, snow will begin to melt
New Skins
New Vehicle Customization ( Will touch an a potential collab release below)
Regarding vehicles, there is a collab that has been teased for a few months now: Disney/Pixar's Cars. Lightning McQueen and Mater have been rumored to make an item shop appearance soon. While I like the possibility of this, I cant help but wonder. Are the windshields going to be the eyes of the cars, like in the movie? If so, I wonder what the animation is going to look like if the car blows up. What would the kids think?!
There is also another update scheduled for January 31st, which I'm mainly hearing is related to OG Chapter 1 Season 2. Map changes will include the addition of Tilted Towers and Haunted Hills, among others.
Loot poll changed will include the additions of the Silenced Pistol, Minigun, Cozy Campfire, Boogie Bombs and more. There will also be a new edition of the OG Pass. Like Fortnite OG Season 1, which featured reimagined versions of the Renegade Raider, Aerial Assault Trooper, and Skull Trooper, Season 2 also had some all-timers. The Royale Knight, Blue Squire, Sparkle Specialist, and the beloved Black Knight are a few of note.
Ultimately, we must wait and see what Epic has in store when the next OG Season drops on Jan. 31.
